SMLSC conducts patrols on weekends and public holidays from the last weekend in November to Easter Monday in April each year along the Albert Park beach.

The members who make up the patrols must all hold at least a Bronze Medallion (or Surf Rescue Certificate for 13-14 year olds), but most also have further awards such as Advanced Resuscitation, IRB Crew, IRB Driver. 

Each patrol is lead by a Patrol Captain who has been selected for outstanding performance, commitment and leadership ability.
