► Nippers Competition 2010 - 2011

Victorian Junior Pool Lifesaving Championships
Sandringham Leisure Centre – King Club - Sunday 5th June, 2011.
South Melbourne had 15 nippers competing at the Victorian Junior Pool Lifesaving Championships where they achieved some great results coming away with numerous medals.

Our small band of members compared to other clubs were up for the challenge even though a few extra clubs turned up on the day – this wasn’t going to deter our troops.

We got off to a great start with our U/12 girls and boys in the Obstacle Race – a 1ST, 2ND, 4TH 6TH and 10TH – what more could a Team Manager ask for?

Throughout the day our members continually put in a 100% and came away with personal bests and even more confidence particularly our members who are new to these types of events.

Our relay teams continued their consistently high performances and in events finished hard to touch first or in the top 3, but the most encouraging and proud moments is when our relay teams may not of come first but because they have finished the race correctly they have come out on top. That means our nippers as young as 7 have taken on board the technicalities of pool lifesaving and our training sessions have paid off.

Once again our parents stood up and had a go with their child in the relays which was fun for all and contributed to our overall point score.

Well done to our parents_- Tanja Down, Shai and Mark Ashkanasy, Damian Kininmonth, Fiona Hinrichsen, Maureen O’Keefe, Andy Graham, Christian Schiebold, Michael Logan and Christine Cardwell.

Many thanks to our officials – Time Keepers - Jo Graham, Ming Wang, Fiona Hinrichsen – Chief Referee Barbara Morgan and Starter – Jim Morgan.

To Christine Cardwell our Team Manager and Anni Gardiner and Christian Schiebold our 2 trusty assistants did a great job organising the kids.

To our resident photographer Mark Ashkanasy thanks for the great shots and keeping us entertained throughout the day.

At the end of the day – yes its great to set goals and win a medal, but most of all its great to see our nippers, new or experienced, having a go, learning new skills, demonstrating those skills and being part of a team.

Last but not least thanks to our fabulous parent and friends in the stand who supported the team throughout the day.GO SOUTH ! Great Team Effort !Many thanks to our officials – Time Keepers - Jo Graham, Ming Wang, Fiona Hinrichsen – Chief Referee Barbara Morgan and Starter – Jim Morgan.

Junior Pool Carnival - Sunday 15th May 2011
Sandringham Leisure Centre - King Club
What  a great turn out of the red green and white army – 16 competitors, and every one of them receiving a ribbon or 2, or 6 for some of them.  We got off to a brilliant start with the first event with our resident fishes Ashleigh and Brittany OBrien taking out 1st and 3rd respectively in the obstacle race then followed by our U/12 boys in Matthew and Edward taking out 2nd and 3rd.

This great start continued throughout the afternoon with one of our littlest water babies in Daisy Graham taking out first place again in the U/8 girls’ freestyle and not to let the team down our U/8 boy Fergus Kininmonth came home with 2nd place.

Majority of our team were only ever experiencing their second carnival, so lots of encouragement and
mimicking stroke action on side of pool deck had Christine and Christian exhausted by the end of the meet.

However they still had enough energy for the parent child relays along with Fiona Hinrichsen, Andy Graham, Maureen O’Keefe and Damian Kininmonth – and all coming away with ribbons as well.

Neil OBrien and Ines Rains assisted with officiating with stop watch precision, Barbara Morgan was Carnival Referee and our team of roaring supporters/parents in the stands kept the kids revved up for their next
event.

All in all a great team effort and we only missed by a measly 3 points in winning the carnival.

Now for the Victorian Championships on Sunday 5th June at 2.00pm.  We would love to see as many of you
come along and cheer our team on – or you could be apart of it?

To the parents who assisted with the children in their age groups -  Ines, Shai, Ming and Robert -  a big thank you.
